This class delved into the historical and contemporary challenges faced by women in the United States. And it served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and determination required to thrive in male-dominated industries.
Reflecting on my recent extra credit assignment : I took this assignment as an opportunity to put to the test my understanding of the materials and informations reviewed throughout the semester. Pushing the reflection points beyond the limit of the US and examining a specfic form of media that was consumed in my region.
Reflecting on my recent interview assignment : The person I inteviewed was a remarkable panelist on "Leadership and Professional Challenges", and I can't help but feel profoundly inspired. Engaging with her not only provided valuable insights into navigating the complexities of the professional world but also shed light on the broader experiences of women, both past and present.
Moreover, our dialogue illuminated the significance of intersectionality in understanding the nuanced experiences of women from diverse backgrounds.
As I embark on my own journey, I hope to remain mindful of the lessons shared by my interviewee's experiences . An I will keep her example as a living statement that authenticity, perseverance, kindness and dedication can co-exist in a professional setting.
I aim to write papers in the future, related to my industry.
A significant personal milestone in my ability to conceptualize a project from inception to fruition.
I initiated and am leading an initiative project within the campus technology sandbox to address sustainability concerns by repurposing end-of-spool filaments for small-scale engineering projects.
The Technology Sandbox, is a student lead space within the Wentworth Schumann Library were prototyping and project realization tools are offers to the community. For about a year, I have been servicing my skills and putting my problem solving skills to test, using 3D printers, wood engraving machines and more.
Throughout this year my growing interest in prototyping solutions and 3D printing capacities lead me to questioning the cons of these options.
I started looking into sustainability in 3D printing, and realized while working how leftover filaments weren't usable for the orders we were receiving.
After further research, I proposed and started working toward an initiative to recycle those leftovers.
I have been managing, collecting, organizing and utilizing the surplus of materials to create items such as keychains, bookmarks, paperclips, and crocs shoes accessories, aiming to
first, bring awareness among students about our campus available resource and utilization and finally promote sustainable practices.
I have been collaborating with fellow students and staff to troubleshoot, and produce projects using 3D printing techniques.
I am documenting the project outcomes, setbacks and achievements, and hope to map the impacts it may have on the campus community.
In the future, I hope to be within a team who's as actively involved as I am .
Stepping into the world of technology as a Mechanical Engineering student at Afrotech 2023 (Austin, Texas) was initially intimidating
Workshops and panels at Afrotech sparked a curiosity on pushing traditional engineering boundaries. This conference lead me to explore the possibilities where technology converges with engineering.
I had the opportunity to network with representatives from leading companies and it broadened my understanding of tech applications but also fueled my desire to merge my love for music with engineering.
This journey taught me the significance of embracing discomfort, breaking out of my comfort zone, and endorsing networking opportunities without hesitation.
Afrotech 2023 was more than just a conference; it was a transformative journey that broadened my career horizons and reinforced the importance of having a diversified perspective in the dynamic realm of technology while challenged my preconceptions.
My key gateway from this experience : hesitation has no place in the world of networking – every conversation is a potential gateway to new knowledge and opportunities.
Next time, I plan to be more strategic in my logistics by organizing my stay in closer proximity to the event venue.
Being an engineering student can be overwhelming. Now 3 years in, my head felt full of thermodynamic laws, variance analysis, energy transfer and vector calculations. Taking "Introduction to Engineering" felt late but much needed.
My portfolio/Assignments
The course was taught by Prof. Kiapour and was an absolute turning point in my academic and professional journey.
Prof. Kiapour taught , with vigorous passion, what it meant to be an engineer and the importance of knowing (for ourselves) if it was a journey we were ready and dedicated to overtake.
We (students) were directed toward building a portfolio to document our "Journey to becoming a World Class Engineering Student WCES".
Some of the assignments were directed questions (forcing us to dive deep in our reasonings, pre-existing knowledge and hope), others were informational interviews (giving us an experienced view on the professional life awaiting us) and finally resource guiding to help us find our own ways.
